FROM TRADITIONAL OLD-TIME BANJO PICKIN' TO CONTEMPORARY SINGER-SONGWRITERORIGINALS.

A NOT-T0-BE MISSED MINI-FOLK FEST.

It's that special time of the year. Time for political fundraisers. Phyllis Busansky is running for Supervisor of Elections, Hillsborough County. Folk musicians enjoy supporting political causes. Thus some of the area's finest folk musicians are pleased to be gathering at the SkipperDome in support of Phyllis' campaign. Please keep in mind. "Folk" can cover a lot ofterritory - both traditional & contemporary. From old-timey banjo pickin' to contemporary singer-songwriter originals. This mini-folk fest starts at 2 pm and ends at approximately 6 pm. Altho it's in support of a political campaign, the public is invited to come out and experience fabulous folk music regardless of one's political persuasion.

Our charming Emcee will be Ms Jan Milner. Our able soundguy will be MrBryan Smeed. A fine time will be had by all.

Bios of Performers: MIKE JURGENSEN: http://www.myspace.com/mikejurgensen Mike, a long-time Floridian, cites, among others on the national scene, the likes of James Taylor, David Wilcox and Cheryl Wheeler as influences. On the Florida scene, he cites, among others, the likes of Steve Blackwell andFrank Thomas. Mike performs at acoustic venues and folk festivals aroundthe state where he, with his gentle demeanor and relaxed delivery, isalways a favorite among Florida folk audiences. Several of his originalsongs have either won first place or have been finalists in varioussong-writing competitions, including the Best Florida Song competitions held at the annual Will McLean Folk Festival. Two of his songs are featured in the Edward R. Murrow Award-winning radio documentary"Apalachicola Doin' Time" produced by WUFT in Gainesville. His song "TheGolden Fleece of Tarpon Springs" is featured in a Florida HumanitiesCouncil project entitled "Settlers by the Sea." It's always a pleasure to experience Mike's sweet music.

JOHN HANCOCK & THE DECLARATION UNPLUGGED: John Hancock & The Declaration(of Independence - get it?). That John is one clever guy. John is a familiar face to regulars at Skipper's. He is the guy who greets you atthe entrance to the Skipperdome, checks your ID, takes your ticket moneyand wishes you a fun evening. For this very special occasion, John and his cohorts will take the stage and entertain with his own roots-informedoriginal music as well as selected tasty classics. Be advised, even thoyou may see John at the Skipper's entrance more frequently than on theSkipper's stage, don't be fooled. John is an apt musician who can more than hold his own with the national acts that frequently grace Skipper's stage.

Bunko Squad:
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=202312775

Bunko Squad is Judy Tampa, John McEwen, George Pappas, and Harry Hayward.Bunko Squad sports a former punk-lite rocker and Midnighter with HankBallard; a guitarist who plays djembe, Irish bouzouki, and mandolin prettymuch all at once; a tall-tale-teller from West Virginia; and a drummer whose mouth is bigger than his kit. Quotes from area celebrities:(1) Per Ronny Elliott: "Bunko Squad is as thrilling as a Japanesemonster movie and you barely need sub-titles. I like them way more than snow skiing. Personally, I've never tried skiing. Did I mention how nice and polite they are? I give them an A+." (2) Per Dawn Pendola:"I've never heard any of those songs you play." (3) Per Bill Dudley:"Why would anyone ever write a song like that?" (4) Per Toby Bonar:"Yeah, man, all that stuff about West Virginia is true."

DALE WEBBER & LINDA FACKELDEY: Dale is an award winning masterold-time frailing banjoist. Linda and Dale both sing old-timey style. They have delighted audiences at folk festivals, including earlier thisyear at the annual Florida Folk Festival in White Springs. Mr. Ethnic, djof the WMNF monthly old-time music program and one of the movers andshakers of the Florida Old-time Music Championships, is a Dale & Linda fanand frequently plays their music. Mr. Ethnic knows about these things.Take his word for it: Dale & Linda are the real old timey music deal.

PAMELA JO HATLEY & STEELE OLMSTEAD: http://www.pamelajomusic.com/ Pamela Jo Hatley is a genuine country girl from Alabama who learned tosing in the church choir. She was born and raised on a farm in thefoothills of the Appalachians and has family roots in Sand Mountain,Alabama, from whence many great "old-time" musicians have come. PamelaJo sings and plays guitar and claw-hammer banjo. Her vocals are sweet andpure, bathed in southern charm. She performs music rooted deep in earlyAmerican history, pre-civil war era and beyond the seas to the "oldcountry." Pamela Jo has performed at the Florida Folk Festival, PinellasFolk Festival, and many other folk and acoustic venues. At the 25th AnnualFlorida Old Time Music Championship (2006) she earned first place inwomen's vocals and beginning banjo. On frequent occasions, Pamela Jo is accompanied by her able side-kick Steele Olmstead. Such will be the case at the Folkies for Phyllis event.

ERNIE WILLIAMS & THE BARKING DOGS: Ernie, whose day job is that ofProfessor of Philosophy at Saint Leo University, and whose clawhammerbanjo playing and singing is something to behold, is a member of anacoustic jam group, The Barking Dogs. The "dogs," who meet weekly in SanAntonio, are putting their show on the road -- the road to Skipper'sSmokehouse that is.
